Itinerary

Swap monotonous loops for a dynamic point-to-point adventure where land and sea move in harmony. Ride through the Gargano’s UNESCO-protected forests, cross Lastovo’s rugged trails, traverse Korčula’s olive grove paths, conquer Hvar’s soaring peaks, and explore Vis’s secluded charm. Each destination offers varied distances, elevation gains, and trail types, ensuring every rider - from novice to expert - finds their perfect challenge. The journey concludes with a sail back to Rodi Garganico, blending adrenaline-pumping rides with serene Adriatic crossings. Disclaimer: Trail surfaces, distances, and elevation gains may vary based on group fitness, weather, and environmental conditions. Routes offer different intensities to accommodate all riders.
Day 1:
Welcome and Sail to Vieste

Your journey begins at 15:00 with check-in at Rodi Garganico, Puglia, a tranquil coastal haven nestled against the Adriatic. Meet your crew and board the yacht before setting sail to Vieste, where white cliffs and medieval charm welcome you. Enjoy the sea breeze on a 2–2.5 hour sail, then explore the town’s historic center and iconic Pizzomunno rock.

Day 2:
Explore the Forest of Umbria

Set out on a scenic gravel ride through the Foresta Umbra in Gargano National Park. Ride shaded forest trails, gentle climbs, and forest springs as you loop through one of Italy’s greenest heartlands.

Distance:56 km / 35 miles (elevation 1,250 m)

Day 3:
Sail to Lastovo

Embark on a full-day sail from Vieste to Croatia’s Lastovo island. Let the sea unwind your body as the catamaran slices through open water, arriving at one of the Adriatic’s most untouched islands.

Day 4:
Lastovo and Sail to Korčula

Tackle Lastovo’s trails through pine forests and rolling hills. Ride into quiet coastal towns and along rocky outcrops with views of shimmering bays. Later, sail to Korčula’s welcoming shores.

Day 5:
Korčula and Sail to Hvar

Explore western Korčula on a challenging loop. Ride among ancient olive groves, rugged coastline, and quiet fishing villages. End the day sailing to Hvar as the sun sets over the Adriatic.

Day 6:
Hvar and Sail to Vis

Climb Hvar’s central highlands for panoramic views and wind through lavender fields and stone-lined paths. After your ride, sail to Vis, arriving as twilight colors the sea.

Day 7:
Vis and Night Sail to Rodi Garganico

Explore Vis’s remote corners and climb Mount Hum for sweeping Adriatic vistas. Ride past WWII tunnels and vineyard-covered hills before setting off on a night sail back to Italy.

Departure

What’s Included in Your Maca Adventure?

Your 8-day guided and supported gravel biking adventure includes:

  • Daily guided gravel rides across Puglia’s Gargano National Park and Croatia’s Lastovo, Korčula, Hvar, Vis.
  • Private sailing catamaran (Excess 14 or equivalent).

How Fit Do I Need to Be?

This adventure is designed for riders of all levels - from beginners seeking scenic routes to advanced cyclists eager for long, challenging days. Expect daily rides of 40-103 km with 900-1,800 m elevation gain, featuring a mix of smooth gravel, rolling terrain, technical sections, and optional detours for more experienced riders. A solid fitness base and experience riding on mixed terrain are recommended to get the most from this trip.

What if I’ve Never Gravel Biked Before?

No problem! Our certified guide will adapt the routes to your skill level and offer coaching throughout. Whether you’re transitioning from road or mountain biking or brand new to mixed terrain, you’ll find routes tailored to suit every rider - from relaxed coastal cruises to more technical sections.

What Do I Need to Bring?

Space is limited onboard, so pack light in a soft, foldable bag (avoid hard-shell suitcases).

Required:

  • Gravel bike suited for mixed terrain (or rental available on request)
  • Certified helmet
  • Basic repair kit (multi-tool, spare tube, pump, tire levers)
  • Cycling shoes (clipless or flat)
  • Breathable sport clothing for varied weather
  • Hydration system (2L+ capacity)

Recommended:

  • Cycling gloves for grip and comfort
  • Windproof or softshell jacket
  • Arm/leg warmers
  • Lightweight rain jacket
  • Sunglasses with UV protection

Group Sizes and Age Requirements

  • Group size: 5-10 participants (one guide per group).
  • Private adventures: groups of 5-11 with customizable itineraries.
Age requirements:
  • 18+ welcome without restrictions.
  • 60+: please contact us to discuss suitability.
  • Under 18: welcome with parent/guardian if able to handle sustained sport and (e-bikes can weigh up to 24kg).

How Do I Get There?

Your adventure begins at Marina di Rodi Garganico, nestled in the heart of the Gargano National Park.

Getting There:

  • By Train: Direct regional trains connect Rodi Garganico with Foggia, Bari, and Rome.
  • By Car: Via A14 and SS693 highways, with secure long-term parking at the marina.
  • By Shuttle (on request): Private transfers from Bari or Pescara airports/train stations available at a special price.
  • By Air: Bari (BRI) or Pescara (PSR) airports, approximately 2 hours away by car or shuttle.

Optional pre-departure accommodation is available in or near Rodi Garganico for those arriving a day early.

Travel and Medical Protection

Travel and medical insurance are mandatory, including coverage for cycling activities, trip cancellations, medical emergencies, and unexpected travel disruptions. We’re happy to help you find a policy that fits your need.

Payment Policies, Cancellations, and Notes

To secure your place on this unforgettable Maca adventure, payment in full is required at the time of booking.

Cancellation Policy:

  • More than 45 days before departure: Full refund.
  • 45-30 days before departure: 50% refund.
  • Less than 30 days before departure: No refund.

Important Notes:

  • All cancellation requests must be submitted via email.
  • Payments for extras (e.g., equipment) must be settled in cash at boarding.
  • If Maca cancels: Full refund or transfer to another trip. Maca is not responsible for additional costs such as flights or accommodations.
  • Force Majeure: Refunds cannot be provided for unforeseen events (severe weather, political unrest, emergencies), but we’ll do our best to assist with transferring your booking.
