The Adriatic is more than turquoise waters and dramatic coastlines—it’s a paradise for freedivers and sailors alike. Over eight days, explore Croatia’s pristine underwater landscapes, from shallow reefs teeming with marine life to deep caves and WWII wrecks. Whether perfecting your breath-hold for a shallow dive or tackling technical descents to historic wrecks, this trip blends adventure and relaxation seamlessly, culminating in the magical Blue Grotto on Biševo. Disclaimer: Dive sites and activities will be adjusted to accommodate different experience levels, ensuring both beginner and advanced freedivers have a fulfilling and safe adventure.
Day 1:
Welcome and Sail to Palagruža

Your journey begins at 15:00 PM with check-in at Rodi Garganico, Puglia. Meet your crew and board the yacht before setting sail to Palagruža, a remote Adriatic island. Relax onboard and enjoy the open sea during this 3-4 hour crossing. Spend the night anchored in this peaceful, off-the-grid destination.

  • Palagruža Reef (Beginners, 5–15 m): Shallow reefs with clear water, small fish, and sponges, perfect for beginners. Located directly at Vela Palagruža anchorage.
  • Galijula Wall (Advanced, 15–40 m): Steep drop-off with gorgonians and fish schools, ~2 NM from Vela Palagruža. Currents possible, suitable for advanced divers.

Day 2:
Sail to Lastovo and Freediving Exploration

After breakfast, enjoy morning freediving at Palagruža, then embark on a 5–6-hour sail to Lastovo, a pristine nature park. Spend the afternoon freediving at beginner-friendly and intermediate sites, exploring steep walls and caves. Anchor in the sheltered Zaklopatica Bucht for the night.

Freediving Spots:

  • Bijeli Rat (Beginners/Advanced, 10–30 m): Steep wall with meeraals, lobsters, and amphora shards, directly at Zaklopatica Bucht. Beginners dive shallow; advanced divers explore deeper.
  • Lastovo Cave (Beginners/Advanced, 10–25 m): Underwater cave with sponges, corals, and fish, ~1–2 NM from Zaklopatica. Ideal for intermediate divers.

Day 3:
Freediving at Lastovo

Spend the full day on Lastovo, a pristine nature park, with morning and afternoon freediving sessions at intermediate sites. Explore steep walls and caves, perfect for building confidence. Stay anchored in Zaklopatica Bucht for a second night, enjoying the island’s tranquility.

  • Bijeli Rat (Beginners/Advanced, 10–30 m): Steep wall with meeraals, lobsters, and amphora shards, directly at Zaklopatica Bucht. Beginners dive shallow; advanced divers explore deeper.

Day 4:
Sail to Korčula and Cave Diving Adventure

Sail 4–5 hours to Korčula, arriving by late morning. Spend the afternoon freediving at caves and a wreck on the south and west coasts, introducing more technical challenges. Anchor in the protected Vela Luka harbor for a relaxed evening.

Freediving Spots:

  • Big Cave (Beginners, 10–25 m): Large cave with seahorses and corals, directly at Vela Luka. Low currents, ideal for beginners exploring caves.
  • Blue Hole (Beginners/Advanced, 10–30 m): Labyrinthine cave with lobsters and morays, ~5 NM from Vela Luka. Advanced divers reach 40 m for gorgonians.
  • Plic Drašan Wreck (Advanced, 10–30 m): Wreck with reefs, ~3–4 NM from Vela Luka. Advanced divers explore up to 45 m.

Freediving at Korčula and Sail to Vis

Enjoy a morning freediving session at Korčula to revisit favorite sites or refine skills. Sail 5–6 hours to Vis, arriving by late afternoon. Anchor in the protected Komiža harbor and spend the evening exploring the charming fishing village.

  • Big Cave (Beginners, 10–25 m): Large cave with seahorses and corals, directly at Vela Luka. Low currents, ideal for beginners exploring caves.

Take a 1-hour morning boat trip to Biševo for the trip’s highlight: the Blue Grotto, a UNESCO site with magical light, offering dives for all levels. Return to Vis for afternoon freediving at challenging wrecks and reefs. Stay anchored in Komiža for the night, preparing for the night sail.

Freediving at Vis and Night Sail to Marina di Rodi Garganico

How Fit Do I Need to Be?

This trip is ideal for both seasoned trail runners and motivated beginners with a solid fitness base. You should be comfortable running on uneven terrain and prepared for multiple days of running with elevation gain. Steeper sections will be hiked as a group, but the routes can still be demanding. Come ready for back-to-back trail runs with your gear on your back.

  • The usual ratio is one guide for every 8 runners.

Your adventure begins in Rodi Garganico, a picturesque coastal town in Puglia, Italy.The nearest major airport is Bari Airport (BRI), located approximately 3 hours away. From Bari, you can reach Rodi Garganico via:You’ll meet the group at the marina in Rodi Garganico at 10:00 AM on the first day of your adventure. Your guide will provide detailed instructions and meeting information prior to your arrival.

  • Train: Direct regional trains connect Bari to Rodi Garganico, offering a scenic journey along the Adriatic coast.
  • Car: Rent a car for a flexible and convenient drive to the marina.
  • Bus: Several bus services operate between Bari and Rodi Garganico.

To reserve your place on an unforgettable Maca adventure, the total trip amount must be paid in full at the time of booking. Early birds benefit from a 12.5% discount, making it easier to lock in your adventure and help us ensure smooth preparations for your trip.

Cancellation Policy

If your plans change, here’s how refunds will be handled:

  • More than 45 days before departure: You are eligible for a full refund of the total amount.
  • 45–30 days before departure: You will receive a 50% refund of the total amount.
  • Less than 30 days before departure: Unfortunately, no refunds will be provided.

Important Notes:

  • All cancellation requests must be made in writing via email.
  • Payments for extras during the trip (e.g., additional services or equipment) must be settled in cash at boarding.
  • If Maca cancels the trip, you’ll receive a full refund of the amount paid or the option to transfer your payment to another trip. Maca is not responsible for additional costs such as flights or accommodations.
  • Force Majeure: In the rare case of cancellations due to unforeseen events such as severe weather, political unrest, or other emergencies beyond our control, refunds cannot be provided. However, we will do our best to assist you in transferring your booking to a future trip.
